Frequently AskedQuestions
-
Is free parking allowed directly at the holiday apartments?
YES. You can park for free anywhere along Wachtbergstraße where there are white dashed lines. You don't have to park within the dashed lines; you can park a little further away from the wall.
-
Can I walk to the city center?
YES. It takes about 7-8 minutes to walk up the Wachtbergstiege (286 steps) to Pfarrplatz. There you'll be in the heart of Krems' old town.
-
Is it allowed to drive into the old town?
YES. Blue and green zones are paid parking zones in Krems' city center for short-term and long-term parking, respectively. The blue zone is for short-term parking (max. 3 hours), and the green zone is for long-term parking with hourly or daily rates.
Blue Zone
This short-term parking zone is located primarily in Krems' old town, extending to areas such as Utzstraße (north of the ring road), Südtiroler Platz to Stadtgraben, and Stein/Förthof. Fees apply: Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–6 p.m., Sat 8 a.m.–12 p.m.; €0.50/30 min., 1 hour free after the first unit; mobile parking Zone 1.
Green Zone
The Green Zone includes long-term parking areas such as Lederergasse, the Kremstalstraße parking lot, the area around the art mile (e.g., Steiner Donaulände), and parts of Bahnhofplatz. Fees: €0.50/hour, day ticket €4; same hours as the Blue Zone; mobile parking Zone 2.
Parking Rules
Both zones offer 1 hour free after a minimum payment of €0.50; resident and employee parking permits are available. For exact boundaries and maps, please refer to the official brochures of the City of Krems or apps such as EasyPark/Parkster.
There are three parking decks (West, South, East). At major intersections, signs indicate how many spaces are available. These three decks together offer over 580 spaces and use a shared ticketing system for 7- or 30-day passes. In addition to the parking decks, there are several parking structures such as Felsengarten (158 spaces), Campus West (494 spaces), and Steiner Tor (202 spaces), which operate similarly but are not classified as "parking decks."
